How does it work?
A 3d printer can print out digital models as real objects. The printing technique works as follows: first, a very precise 3D model is made, which shapes the object. Using a special program, the model is divided into very thin layers. Based on this, the printer goes to work. It sprays very thin layers of liquid plastic (or other materials) on top of each other. By stacking these layers, a model in 3D is formed. And this can be done with incredible precision: depending on the printer, up to 0.001 mm!
Because of the way printing technology works, a lot is possible. From fat gadget to custom animation puppet, from personalized keychain to complete maquette: there are an awful lot of applications to think of. More and more designers and artists are using this method to create special and complex objects. But 3d printing is also becoming increasingly common in the medical sector. The degree of precision plays a major role in this.

What does it cost to have an object printed?
So what does it cost to have your great idea 3D printed? That depends on a number of factors
- The size of the 3d model
- The material
- The printing technique
- Any adjustments made by us
Therefore, printing a 3D model is not always the cheapest option. To give an example, to replace a part of a cabinet, it is usually cheaper to order a new part.
But the big advantage of a 3D printer is that you can have unique objects printed, and also precisely tailored. For a unique product, the price of a 3D printer is often much lower, than what you would pay if you had it made any other way.

The digital file you created is then converted to a so-called STL file. In it, the design is divided into lots of little layers. Our printer builds the object based on those layers, which are sometimes only a hundredth of a millimeter thick. The end result is a high-quality three-dimensional model!
